About Me
December 1, 2011
So you want to know more about me, Kyle McGuigan, right?
Well that guy in the picture to the right, that’s me!
My name is Kyle McGuigan. You may know me as “AAV”, AcademyArtVenture, The Vulture, DJ Squiggs, GWIGZ. You also may know me from YouTube, or BeatsRoyaltyFree.com, or even VideoInterweb.com.
Wherever you know me from, I always have the same story.
Let’s see if I can sum up a quick about me:
Growing up as a young kid, I was always “doing what everyone else did”. I didn’t have much say in what I did, whether it was playing sports, going to class, joining a club. Heck, I couldn’t even choose what type of food I wanted to eat!
So when I hit 8th grade, I decided I was going to put an end to “doing what everyone else did”, and start living my own life.
I went to a high school that no one else in my previous class went to. I then joined the high school band, learned music, became the president of both Art Club and DJ Club. I also started my own Mobile DJ Company, and have DJed hundreds of parties, dances, events, and more.
But it didn’t stop there. After high school, I again took the next step to go to a college that NOT A SINGLE ONE OF MY 2,000 CLASSMATES WERE ATTENDING. From there, I took business classes, communications classes, and TONS of art classes. I even joined the local radio station, and became the premiere Friday Night DJ – and had my own slotted mix show every week.
After a year at that school, I decided to take a break from the whole “college” thing, and moved back home with my family.
I soon decided to take full time online classes at Academy of Art University, San Francisco, which I am now majoring in Web Design and New Media.
As soon as I started at Academy of Art, I made the choice to begin to document my journey through art school, and life in general, by starting the YouTube channel: AcademyArtVenture.
After taking some web design and video classes, I got better at art, design, video, and music.
I was still DJing a little, and got into beat making. I bought some new equipment, sold some of my old stuff, and started making beats. I was doing so many jobs for beats and instrumentals for people that I decided I’d make a site completely dedicated to free beats and instrumentals (and also now free sound effects and user-submissions). So, I started the site: BeatsRoyaltyFree.com.
After about a year of making videos on a few different YouTube channels, I decided to “give back” to the community a little by starting the blog: VideoInterweb.com. There I would give video tips and tricks, techniques for gaining subscribers, great tools and sites that people can use for free, and much more.
And now we get to today…
I’ve got so many things going on in my life, and I love doing every single one of them. Whether I’m painting, making beats, writing an article, making a video, or just eating some Taco Bell while I watch the newest video on YouTube, I continue to work hard to be successful.
My biggest thing these days is COMMUNITY. A lot of websites are losing the “community” feel to them. Everything is being corporatized, and it seems like most people these days are ONLY in it for the money.
I’m here to mix things up a little. I’m here for the community.
